1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport.
If both parents or one of the parents of the applicant are Chinese citizens and reside in a foreign country, the applicant should have foreign nationality at birth and hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least 4 years. In addition, a record of more than 2 years of actual residence in a foreign country in the last 4 years (by April 30, 2025)is also needed. For people immigrating from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to foreign countries and are applying as international students, please refer to the requirements above.
2. Applicants should be physically and mentally healthy, and meet the medical examination standards for applying for a study visa or residence permit in China.
3. Applicants should be18-30 years old with a high school diploma or above.
4. Applicants should have excellent grades and good conduct, without any record of violation of school rules and regulations, nor any record of public security punishmentor criminal record.
5. Applicant’s language proficiency must meet the following requirements:
(1). Basic understanding of Chinese. Applicants should provide the certificate of basic Chinese learning, such as training certificate, HSK certificate, etc. Those without any Chinese language background must attend the Chinese training organized by the University before the enrollment;
(2). Applicants from non-English-speaking countries must reach a score above 80 in TOEFL (15 or above for each item) or 6.0 in IELTS(5.5 or above for each item); or provide other comparable certificates proving English proficiency. Applicants from English-speaking countriesor receiving the last degree with the instruction in English are exempt from submitting the English proficiency certificates, but the certificate of English medium issued by the school graduated from shall be provided.

Program Description
Southern Medical University is qualified to admit Clinical Medicine international undergraduate students (English medium) announced by the Ministry of Education of China. Since September 2005, SMU has admitted nearly 1,700 students from over 50 countries including India, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Pakistan, Thailand, Jordan, Kenya, Somalia, Iran, Zambia, United States, United Kingdom, South Korea. Referring to the international standards for medical education, and the Quality Control Specification of Medical Undergraduate Education for International Students in China (English Medium) (Trial), the program is carried out while giving due consideration to the medical needs of international students’ source countries and the international needs of returning to home country or serving in a third country. The major aims at training international medical talents with solid basic knowledge, proficient clinical skills and good professional ethics, and devotes to providing medical, teaching and research personnel to medical and health services department. The main courses include Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Immunology, Medical Diagnostics, Medical Psychology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Epidemiology, etc.. The minimum amount of funding required is RMB 150,000. Only one’s relatives can act as his or her financial sponsor.
